born in watford, hertfordshire , raised in shefford, bedfordshire, collison started out @ local club shefford saints schoolboy. moved peterborough united, , later cambridge united, forced find club when cambridge announced disbanding of youth set-up after being relegated football league, due financial problems.

on 18 march 2014, collison signed championship club wigan athletic on loan until end of season. having not played west ham in fa cup during 2013–14 season, collison not cup-tied. played wigan in semi-final match against arsenal @ wembley stadium on 12 april 2014. after match ended 1–1 after time, arsenal won penalty shoot-out 4–2, collison taking second wigan penalty saved arsenal goalkeeper lukasz fabianski. collison released west ham @ end of 2013–14 season. had played 121 games in competitions west ham, scoring 14 goals.

ipswich town , peterborough united

collison signed short-term contract championship club ipswich town on 26 september 2014 until end of december. after struggling injury during time ipswich, december had not played club , manager, mick mccarthy, confirmed collison s contract not renewed.

on 29 may 2015, collison signed one-year contract league 1 club peterborough united. on 3 august, named peterborough s under-21 team coach, remaining registered player. on 13 february 2016, aged 27, collison retired playing following persistent knee injuries, having made 12 appearances club.
