shakti haddad daughter of zail haddad, powerful , ruthless businessman, company performed genetic experiments on poor , destitute citizens. zail s business practices, performing experiments on disenfranchised, not deemed illegal in dystopic universe of marvel 2099 imprint. disgusted father s work shakti left home decade before start of story. father sent bounty hunters bring back, though none succeed. during time met man named ryu kobolt, fell in love with. kobolt, however, suffering fatal disease , left shakti, save grief of eventual death.

shakti later meet xi chi xan, former outlaw began quest unite mutantkind , recreate x-men. mutant ability allowed sense presence of nearby mutants, meanstreak later gave nickname cerebra. used gift xi fill roster, finishing timothy fitzgerald whom met in kingman, az. helped run xi s gatherings, until point when shot assassin, revenge xi s alleged killing of head of synge casino, noah synge.

shakti cared xi group escaped, treating wound , stabilizing him lapsed coma. while others infiltrated casino find evidence of xi s innocence, xi s body coated black cocoon. shakti, skullfire , serpentina ambushed junkpile, incapacitated them , stole xi s comatose body. together, x-men cleared xi of charges, revealing synge s son, lytton, had murdered him. xi awoke coma, having gained second mutation, ability heal right hand.

with arrival of doom, self-imposed u.s. president, x-men hired protectorate of new mutant city-state, halo city. first challenge ends being former victim of zail haddad, mutant named graverobber power revive dead zombies. arrives in halo city looking shakti s estranged father, whom claims have no ties to. surprise, zail had entered city , appeals sanctuary , protection graverobber. grudgingly agrees, double-crossed morphine summers, 1 of doom s cabinet members , unofficial political head of halo city. summers makes deal give zail graverobber, when handed on activates neural charge incapacitates them both.

at time during stay @ halo city, shakti 1 of x-men visit oasis, paradise created ryu kobolt, former lover had assumed dead. kobolt had built oasis bring chosen few downtrodded citizens, put cryogenic stasis 250 years, during time barrage of chemical warheads destroy other life on planet. cerebra, along skullfire, luna , bloodhawk, stop plan , destroy kobolt , oasis. bookshelf edition standalone story not entirely clear fits storyline. however, implied after arrive in halo city, before shakti leaves team.
