Preservation Derwent Valley Light Railway

until 1990, small preservation group, great yorkshire railway preservation society, based @ starbeck near harrogate. when closed, society members relocated yorkshire museum of farming, , started rebuild approximately ⁄4 mile (1.2 km) of track towards york, including section under york by-pass. new station constructed using original station buildings wheldrake, , railway re-opened in 1993.


the line runs mixture of 9 diesel , 1 steam locomotive on sundays , bank holidays.


the track-bed layerthorpe osbaldwick, along part of former foss islands branch line in york, has been converted foot , cycle path, part of sustrans route 66.


whilst future extension of line towards osbaldwick may possible, of 2014 there still no formal plans this.
