kasparov has written books on chess. published controversial autobiography when still in 20s, titled child of change, later retitled unlimited challenge. book subsequently updated several times after became world champion. content literary, small chess component of key unannotated games. published annotated games collection in 1985: fighting chess: games , career , book has been updated several times in further editions. wrote book annotating games world chess championship 1985 victory, world chess championship match: moscow, 1985.
he has annotated own games extensively yugoslav chess informant series , other chess publications. in 1982, co-authored batsford chess openings british grandmaster raymond keene , book enormous seller. updated second edition in 1989. co-authored 2 opening books trainer alexander nikitin in 1980s british publisher batsford—on classical variation of caro-kann defence , on scheveningen variation of sicilian defence. kasparov has contributed extensively five-volume openings series encyclopedia of chess openings.
in 2000, kasparov co-authored kasparov against world: story of greatest online challenge grandmaster daniel king. 202-page book analyzes 1999 kasparov versus world game, , holds record longest analysis devoted single chess game.

in 2003, first volume of five-volume work garry kasparov on great predecessors published. volume, deals world chess champions wilhelm steinitz, emanuel lasker, josé raúl capablanca, alexander alekhine, , of strong contemporaries, has received lavish praise reviewers (including nigel short), while attracting criticism others historical inaccuracies , analysis of games directly copied unattributed sources. through suggestions on book s website, of these shortcomings corrected in following editions , translations. despite this, first volume won british chess federation s book of year award in 2003. volume two, covering max euwe, mikhail botvinnik, vasily smyslov , mikhail tal appeared later in 2003. volume three, covering tigran petrosian , boris spassky appeared in 2004. in december 2004, kasparov released volume four, covers samuel reshevsky, miguel najdorf, , bent larsen (none of these 3 world champions), focuses on bobby fischer. fifth volume, devoted chess careers of world champion anatoly karpov , challenger viktor korchnoi, published in march 2006.
modern chess series
his book revolution in 70s (published in march 2007) covers openings revolution of 1970s–1980s , first book in new series called modern chess series , intends cover matches karpov , selected games. book revolution in 70s concerns revolution in opening theory witnessed in decade. such systems controversial (at time) hedgehog opening plan of passively developing pieces no further first 3 ranks examined in great detail. kasparov analyzes of notable games played in period. in section @ end of book, top opening theoreticians provide own take on progress made in opening theory in 1980s.

historical revision
new chronology (fomenko) uses statistical analysis identify anachronisms in historical records, such claimed parallelism between reign-lengths in dynasties of kingdom of judah (10th-6th centuries bc) , eastern roman empire (4th - 7th centuries ad).
kasparov believes conventional history of civilization radically incorrect. specifically, believes history of ancient civilizations based on misdatings of events , achievements occurred in medieval period. has cited several aspects of ancient history says anachronisms.
