the site occupied panbride church has been site of worship since 1147. series of successive buildings have been built @ site, present building built in 1681 george maule, 2nd earl of panmure. extensively repaired in 1775 , enlarged considerably fox maule in 1851.

barry parish founded in 1230 when alexander ii bequeathed land balmerino abbey. earliest record of church @ barry 1243 when parish church consecrated david de bernham, bishop of st andrews (1238–1252). building barry parish church until 1950s built in 1800 on site of earlier building described being old , sorry . remains of barry parish church lower portion of walls , kirkyard.

the first 2 churches within town of carnoustie built in 1810 2 rival branches of secession church, had split established church in 1733 on issue of patronage. anti-burghers demolished church had built in 1789 near grange of barry farm rebuild nearer expanding village of carnoustie. red kirk , known, situated @ rye park, thistle street stands. burghers, built church same year in kinloch street. church later went through series of unions other churches, becoming part of united original secession church in 1822 , free church in 1852.

barry parish church proved insufficient house rapidly expanding population of parish , refusal of heritors fund enlargement led building of carnoustie church in 1837. building situated on south side of dundee street @ site on stands army , air cadets building. quoad sacra parish assigned church presbytery of arbroath in 1838.

erskine united free church, original secessional church, built 1810

the disruption of 1843 had profound effect on town. small free church set @ east end of barry, , replaced larger building in 1888, continues barry church today. free church took on carnoustie church, , built second church adjacent in 1850 when established church claimed ownership of building. new building later become known st stephen s church. school associated new free church, philip hall, still in existence , used carnoustie church church hall. in 1854, part of congregation of panbride church had joined free church built became newton church @ gallowlaw after several years of being housed in wooden building on westhaven farm. building damaged fire in 1887 , rebuilt larger design.

in 1873, congregation of red kirk, had become part of united presbyterian church, again demolished church and, in part, used material build erskine church on north side of dundee street. this, along st stevens free church, free church in kinloch street, barry free church , newton of panbride church became part of united free church when united presbyterians , free church merged in 1900.

the scottish episcopal church traces history in carnoustie 1853 when began meeting in old schoolhouse off maule street. formed congregation in 1877, rapidly outgrew premises, leading building of church of holyrood in 1881, former building becoming church hall. church building graded category b listed building in 1971

in 1901, established church of scotland built new church, st brides chapel, on carlogie road burghal part of panbride parish. building became redundant place of worship in 1929 when congregations of free church , established church united, , served while church hall, until sold boys brigade in 1952. carnoustie church built new, larger church in 1902, opposite former site. building continues today house congregation of carnoustie church. congregations of carnoustie church , st stephen s merged in 1969, st stephen s being demolished make way new health centre.

on unification of united free church established church in 1929, st stephens , erskine church s congregations merged, using st stephen s home. erskine church sold, , since has variously been cinema, snooker club , pub. did not agree reunification established church formed congregation part of united free church (continuing), first finding home in ymca building, later buying original secession church in kinloch street in 1934. 2 churches in barry completed move former free church site in 1950s.

the congregations of panbride church , newton of panbride church united in 1956 , of carnoustie church , barry church in 2003.

the carnoustie christian fellowship independent congregation meeting in converted former co-op building opposite war memorial. linked charismatic christian movement known international association of healing rooms. congregation ceased meeting in 2011 , ownership of building transferred church plant dundee s central baptist church took name of carnoustie community church.
