History Ter Sami language

in end of 19th century, there 6 ter sami villages in eastern part of kola peninsula, total population of approximately 450. in 2004, there approximately 100 ethnic ter sami of whom 2 elderly persons speak language; rest have shifted language russian.


the rapid decline in number of speakers caused soviet collectivisation, during use prohibited in schools , homes in 1930s, , largest ter sami village, yokanga, declared perspectiveless , inhabitants forced move gremikha military base.
