elizabeth edmondson born on 1 july 1950 in perth, western australia. on 27 september 1951, @ age of 15 months, diagnosed polio. spent fifteen months in hospital. father made changes house make easier around, including addition of parallel bars learn walk. started swimming when 5 years old, @ crawley baths in swan river. first strokes learnt swim backstroke, dog paddle , freestyle. learnt swim without using legs. first placed in swimming competition during competition in year 1 @ school, finished third in dog paddle swim.

her first calliper did not allow bend knee. excited receive first calliper allowed knee bend when ten years old. edmondson had other issues footwear youngster. feet grew, outgrew custom-made footwear. extend life of shoes, toes cut out of them provide more space own toes.
