the copious seeds store if kept dry. in climates or seasons cannot provide cold, damp period of stratification required seeds germination, growers mimic condition placing seeds in refrigerator 2–6 weeks, depending on species. seeds sown on surface of substrate , germinate when transferred warmer, bright conditions. sarracenia seedlings alike first 2 or 3 years; plants reach maturity after 4 or 5 years. regular fertilization (twice month between april , september) balanced fertilizer @ rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon (using 15-16-17 peat-lite or similar fertilizer) speed growth , time maturity. advisable leach regularly pure water prevent buildup of solutes (fertilizer salts) in soil. deep water in potted plant keeps soil waterlogged proper root functioning.


mature sarracenia commonly propagated division. rhizomes extend , produce new crowns of pitchers on course of few growing seasons, , cultivators divide , separate rhizomes during plant s winter dormancy or in growing season. technique used separate sections of rhizomes have no pitchers: when re-potted, section generates new crown of pitchers. further technique employed encourage new crowns appear not involve division of rhizome: small notches 5 mm deep cut top of rhizome, whereupon new crown develops @ site of notch.
