the athletic program offers football, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, tennis, track , field, volleyball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, swimming, , soccer. new bern high school offers cheerleading, drill team, marching band, color guard, , winter guard. in fall of 2009, new bern high school joined 4a mideastern conference. conference made of new bern, ashley, laney, hoggard, new hanover, d.h. conley, , j.h. rose. football team plays home games @ caruso-coates stadium, located on campus. home men s soccer team in fall, , women s soccer team in spring. boykin field, located on campus, home baseball team. basketball team hosts games in gymnasium. wrestling team , volleyball team hold home matches in gym well. men s , women s golf teams play home matches @ new bern golf & country club. swim team holds meets @ new bern s ymca. tennis, track , field, cross-country, , softball teams host events on campus, @ respective facilities.


ed campbell has been tennis coach of conference champion bears past 10 years. known agile coaching technique , graphics teacher @ nbhs.


on december 10, 2007 new bern bears beat charlotte independence high patriots state 4aa championship in football.


on november 30, 2012 bears became north carolina 4a state champions beating porter ridge high school (indian trail) 39-38.


new bern high school started first winter guard team in winter 2013. team won 4th place @ aia championships on march 29, 2014.


the new bern track team participated in 2009 arkansas high school invitational. new bern runners ran third fastest high school 4×200 relay (1:27.02) on record , 4×400 relay ran fastest time in country (2009) @ 3:13.06.
