prior islam, inhabitants of region of bahrain pagans worshipped idol gods awal, , there magians , jews. islam swept arabian peninsula in 7th century, overturning idol worshippers. muhammad sent first envoy abu al-ala al-hadrami munzir ibn sawa al tamimi, ruler of bahrain, in days, extended coast kuwait north of oman including al hasa , bahrain islands, in year 628 ad, inviting him , abdul qays tribe islam. munzir, responding muhammad s call announced conversion islam , arab inhabitants of region of bahrain including persians living in region became muslim, heralding beginning of islamic era in region of bahrain. consequently, abu al ala al-hadrami appointed muhammad representative in bahrain collect jizya (religious tax).
after death of muhammad in 632 ad, large numbers of arab tribes revolted against islamic empire, including large portion of bahrain s population returned paganism. result, new caliph abu bakr sent al-hadrami bahrain sizeable army defeated rebels. governed bahrain until 634 ad when new caliph umar replaced him uthman bin abi al-a las thaqafi after failed in first naval invasion fars. al hadrami later died in 635 ad.
