on 24 april 1854 capsized ship s boat bearing name bella discovered off brazilian coast, wreckage no personnel, , ship s loss hands assumed. tichborne family told in june roger must presumed lost, though retained faint hope, fed rumours, ship had picked survivors , taken them australia. sir james tichborne died in june 1862, @ point, if alive, roger became 11th baronet. presumed dead, title passed younger brother alfred, financial recklessness rapidly brought near-bankruptcy. tichborne park vacated , leased tenants.
