shakka self-released first official ep, foolishness, in july 2009 recorded @ local youth centre. production both shakka , te1, shakka s introduction music industry. shakka consciously decided sing british accent opposed american-influenced accent many of contemporaries using @ time , formed part of trademark sound.

he went on release conceptual mixtape, shakka crown affair, in 2011 gained shakka respect amongst peers, solidified him emerging creative phenomenon in uk , brought him attention of successful british rapper wretch 32.

having developed fanbase in uk, shakka went on release series of youtube covers , mashups entitled shakkapellas in 2012 gained him fans globally , put him on radar of music industry tastemakers.

2013–2014: rise fame

2013 proved successful year shakka, collaborating various artists, notably featuring on wretch 32 s single blackout , reached number 6 on uk singles chart. selected perform on bbc introducing stage @ glastonbury festival, , toured globally basement jaxx guest vocalist.

this year saw shakka receive extensive recognition named in mtv s top 20 unsigned artists of 2013 list , receiving 2 mobo award nominations; including best newcomer. bbc s radio 1xtra champions of shakka s music playing of shakkapellas on station , have supported him throughout rise fame.

noted television performances in 2013 included performing on graham norton show alongside wretch 32, on sunday brunch , channel 5 s wright stuff.

he followed growing success independent project, tribe ep, in 2013. in july 2013 released single spin , taken tribe. in november 2013 released single want see .

in 2013 shakka chosen perform in, , produce music for, national theatre production called home directed nadia fall ran 2 months during late summer. during production had pleasure of sharing stage antonia thomas (e4 s misfits) , bafta award-winning michaela coel (e4 s chewing gum).

2015–present: breakthrough. lost boys , island

in 2014, shakka released collection of remixes aptly named shakka b-sides. featured remix of ten walls walking elephants featuring frisco (bbk), achieved on 8 million views on youtube. in 2015, shakka signed pitched up/sony music.

in 2015, shakka released debut major label ep lost boys , new single entitled nada .

shortly afterwards, released remix of nada featuring 2 verses jme (bbk), has accumulated on 5 million youtube views. solo version of song features on ep lost boys, released 6 november 2015.

in 2016 returned follow-up ep, island, earned shakka second mobo award best r&b/soul act alongside spot on independent s ones watch 2017 list.

shakka featured on ghetts new record know ting , released on 27 january 2017 on black butter records.
