dugan selected san francisco 49ers junior in seventh round (80th overall) of 1957 nfl draft, didn t join league until 1958. although saw limited playing time during first 2 seasons, known making spectacular catches.


dallas cowboys

the dallas cowboys selected dugan in 1960 nfl expansion draft, along billy howton, became first wide receivers ever start franchise. year, second leading receiver on team (behind jim doran), while earning reputation spectacular catches , producing 29 receptions 461 yards , touchdown.


after asking traded, sent washington redskins in three-team deal on july 5, 1961. redskins acquired dugan, placekicker john aveni, defensive dave whitsell , offensive end jerry daniels. new york giants obtained offensive ends joe walton , jim podoley. cowboys received placekicker allen green , sixth round 1962 nfl draft team later used draft george andrie.


washington redskins

dugan flourished redskins in first season, breaking team receiving record , setting career highs 53 receptions 817 yards , 4 touchdowns. in second season after redskins obtained bobby mitchell, had 36 receptions 466 yards , 5 touchdowns.


he retired following 1963 season after having 20 receptions 288 yards. career totals 153 receptions 2,226 yards , 13 touchdowns.
