moorehead began excavation @ etowah mounds site in georgia during winter of 1925. work lasted 4 winter seasons, conducting excavations on mound c , surrounding village area. moorehead s work on mound c led discovery of rich array of mississippian culture goods. while working on mound c, moorehead worked small amount on mounds , b, excavation object-oriented , ceased after no exotic goods encountered. etowah papers, moorehead s report, published in 1932. moorehead found several mississippian copper plates decorated human dancers wearing eagle paraphernalia. site culturally affiliated , protected muscogee (creek) nation, owned state of georgia, , has been considered protected national historic landmark since 1965.
