uss flusser steamed way san diego, california, in july 1937, after spending first months of naval service in atlantic , mediterranean. based in san diego until 1939, reassigned pearl harbor. flusser @ sea when japanese struck pearl harbor, took part in post-attack search. next 6 months, carried out convoy duty between pearl harbor , west coast, , engaged in escort , patrol duty out of southwest pacific ports. july 1942 february 1943, flusser in overhaul status @ pearl harbor. returned escort , training operations in solomon islands , later based @ milne bay, new guinea. during september, flusser part of amphibious landing forces @ lae , finschhafen, new guinea. in december 1943, destroyer participated in bombardment , landings @ arawe , cape gloucester, new britain. while attached 7th fleet in february, supported landing of troops @ los negros island in admiralty islands. between april , june 1944, ship in mare island naval shipyard overhaul.

after overhaul, flusser returned pearl harbor. in august, escorted convoy eniwetok , moved on majuro in marshall islands, patrolled bypassed japanese-held atolls. on patrol off wotje atoll, ship fired on shore battery left 9 of crew members wounded. in october, sailed north san pedro bay duty in leyte gulf , surigao strait. december 1944, flusser had escorted convoys hollandia jayapura leyte , taken part in amphibious landing @ ormoc bay. in march 1945, flusser provided escort support landing near cebu in philippines. during july participated in balikpapan campaign in borneo, escorting ships , covering landing. after occupation duty in okinawa during september , october, sailed san diego, california, arriving in november 1945. during 1946, flusser took part in atomic weapons tests in marshall islands. there, steamed pearl harbor, norfolk, virginia. destroyer decommissioned there in december 1946 , sold in january 1948. flusser received 8 battle stars world war ii service.
