the race s founder , main organizer nathan jones, participated in 2014 event, finishing in 13th place, , rode tour divide mountain bike race in 2010 , 2011.


rider positions monitored using gps satellite-based tracker devices mounted on participants bikes upload positions trackleaders website participants , followers view. many participants update followers on progress using social media websites.


newton bike shop in newton, kansas situated shortly after halfway point. shop offers services participants @ time of day or night, including use of hostel-style bunk room, kitchen, , bike repair service. in 2015, put live stream wall-mounted webcam online people watch racers arrive , see brief interview each of them.
