p. cineraria small tree, ranging in height 3–5 m (9.8–16.4 ft). leaves bipinnate, 7 fourteen leaflets on each of 1 3 pinnae. branches thorned along internodes. flowers small , creamy-yellow, , followed seeds in pods. tree found in extremely arid conditions, rainfall low 15 cm (5.9 in) annually; indicative of presence of deep water table. other prosopis spp., p. cineraria has demonstrated tolerance of highly alkaline , saline environments.
