yuichi aizawa protagonist of kanon. friendly , outgoing. teases main cast of girls throughout story varies in severity depending on girl. despite this, have soft side likens him older brother noted shiori misaka. used visit city in story takes place, memories of time gone, coming him interacts people met in past. noted himself, afraid of heights , not fond of sweets. while not aware of @ first, yuichi begins take notice in supernatural events occurring within city. during these times of revelation when discover outrageous, stays strong girls has made close friendships with. since yuichi normal person, tries them way can , go out of way in order protect 1 or more of these girls.

ayu tsukimiya (月宮 あゆ, tsukimiya ayu)

ayu main heroine in kanon, followed closely nayuki minase kanon heroine appear ayu on 3 of official game covers released key. ayu created naoki hisaya wrote scenario visual novel, , designed itaru hinoue. hisaya commented on how thought ayu 1 character in kanon felt grasped best, noted difficult write character due ayu being energetic. after hinoue drew wings on ayu s backpack, hisaya suggested remove them due spoiler reasons, , while hinoue went along @ time, wings later included once again.

nayuki minase (水瀬 名雪, minase nayuki)

nayuki yuichi s cousin, whom moves in @ beginning of story. has been in love him (in japan, marriages between first cousins legal) , must learn how deal these feelings, threat may fall 1 of other girls. adores strawberry sundaes, mere mention of mother s special homemade jam makes sick (or else after trying it). nayuki heavy sleeper, has led collect dozens of alarm clocks; not work on her, instead wake yuichi every morning. since has such trouble waking up, running school , in fact school s star runner because of this. similarly, became captain of school s female track team despite being in second year. takes long time in morning , pass out several times in morning, while standing, before waking up. despite attempts stay conscious, still tends fall asleep lot in class, nayuki accepted top level university.


nayuki has fondness animals , never misses opportunity try pet one, wild animals, such cats, dogs, or occasional fox if can it. unfortunately her, allergic cats. 1 of defining features tends talk slower rest of characters. state obvious yuichi, such when lunch break occurs or when school ends. also, when yuichi breaks promise her, calls him liar. nayuki second ayu used character in series marketing. also, in both anime adaptations, story runs @ same time ayu s. in anime , manga, revealed nayuki confessed yuichi shortly after ayu s accident , rejected because still distraught on it.


nayuki first girl appear in kanon s story. nayuki s arc revolves around mother falling victim traffic accident , being hospitalized result. causes nayuki fall depression , yuichi tries console despite nayuki s continued efforts push him away. in original version of visual novel, point in story nayuki s h-scene viewed. nayuki comes out of depression , makes yuichi. if player follows correct choices in following nayuki s arc, ending takes place while nayuki still depressed. yuichi ends confessing nayuki, saying not see cousin, important girl. however, nayuki upset sudden confession , asks why did not come meet 7 years ago. later on, nayuki able accept yuichi s confession.


in epilogue, revealed akiko has recovered , returned home hospital. nayuki forgets turn off alarm clock , player gets hear recorded message yuichi left her: nayuki, can t make miracle happen, can side. promise if re in despair comfort you. @ happy times, laugh you. in winter, filled snow; in spring, when sakura tree blooms; in quiet summer; in fall, when color of leaves change; , if snow starts fall again. stay here. not go anywhere. because i...i you.


makoto sawatari (沢渡 真琴, sawatari makoto)

makoto young girl attacks yuichi aizawa in middle of town on in story, though weakly able defeat extending arm out. carried minase household lives guest remainder of story. despite having lost memories, remembers name , sure holds grudge against yuichi when visited city in past. makoto s amnesia, or memory loss, more severe yuichi or ayu tsukimiya s, entirely different source. feels sad pets abandoned when owners cannot take care of them. due attitude, takes while warm stray cat finds halfway through story yuichi later names piro. makoto shown love piro , carries cat around on head. ayu, has idiosyncratic expression, aū (あうぅ), says when frustrated or sad; likewise, has no real meaning. near end of story, makoto starts wear 2 bells around right wrist , enjoys sound make.


from on, obvious makoto has mischievous personality, leads perform various pranks. yuichi exclusive target of pranks because of strong dislike him, reaffirms. pranks vary in severity, dropping food on him once throwing lit firecrackers room. however, manages turn each prank on her, makes more determined prank him. time passes , makoto begins feel more member of minase family rather stranger, grows yuichi, looking beyond latent distaste him. after attitude change, starts weakening , becomes incapable of communication because wish @ yuichi s side can last short period of time. makoto falls in love yuichi , says wants married him , stay him forever. @ end of story, after , yuichi have been married , disappears in front of yuichi, , presumed have died.


makoto in fact not human being instead fox yuichi found ten years prior beginning of kanon. yuichi found makoto, young fox, injured on monomi hill , took home treat injury , kept in room rest of summer. 1 day, yuichi told fox older girl had crush on named makoto sawatari, present day makoto takes name. @ end of summer break, yuichi took fox hill , ran home after releasing her, leading angry yuichi. 2 reunited when fox transforms makoto near start of kanon. desire see yuichi again being strong, wish granted @ cost of memories , later, life.


shiori misaka (美坂 栞, misaka shiori)

shiori first-year student has suffered illness since birth. affliction has caused physically weak, , absent school because of it. loves drama , inventing reasons things happen in life, real-life drama of sister denies , life threatened illness encroaching on her. sick is, shiori thinks nothing of sitting outside school hours on end while eating ice cream in middle of winter, despite yuichi telling several times go home , rest. due illness, not strange carry around array of different pills , drugs many symptoms. has noticeably quiet voice. shiori informs yuichi on reason disobeys doctors advice , comes school wants meet knows. heroine in kanon whom yuichi did not meet in past.


shiori s first appearance in kanon story day after yuichi arrives in town. next day in school, yuichi meets shiori @ school , asks doing there. shiori says not worry since student @ school, has day off due sickness. when yuichi asks sick with, shiori tells him simple cold, though has had long time. during next few weeks, yuichi starts meet shiori on regular basis whether during or after school. shiori confesses having lied yuichi how serious sickness is, not go detail it. yuichi later finds out meeting shiori s older sister, kaori misaka, shiori may not live past next birthday rapidly approaching.


a week before shiori s birthday, gets permission doctor attend school week normal student. after getting chance go school week, kaori still avoids shiori as can, not wanting have experience pain shiori s death bring. shiori s birthday, yuichi decides throw birthday party @ local café day before official birthday , invites several others join. while kaori not show @ start of party, later shows changes mood of party. afterwards, kaori decides accept shiori younger sister makes shiori happier had been in recent months.


yuichi , shiori spend rest of night @ favorite place in town: large fountain in park. shiori tells him night neglected day first met. day, shiori planning kill herself slitting wrists box cutter after meeting yuichi , ayu on way home grocery store, not go through , wanted meet both of them again. after kiss between two, shiori falls unconscious in yuichi s arms; in 2006 anime series, leaves drink , disappears. after point, shiori taken hospital , kaori not come school during time. @ end of story, shiori miraculously cured. in tears, confesses yuichi never wanted die, , trying strong during difficult times.


mai kawasumi (川澄 舞, kawasumi mai)

mai third-year student of same high school yuichi goes to. meets standing alone in school building @ night, sword in hand. has apparently taken upon herself fight , defeat demons @ night while school deserted. due this, blamed accidents because never denies them, being sincere , knowing no 1 believe there demons in school. best friend sayuri kurata, person besides yuichi not believe mai dangerous delinquent. yuichi starts bringing dinner @ school while fighting , during these times mai begins warm yuichi. mai s idiosyncrasy unwillingness carry on conversation or merely utter meekest of responses when addressed. due this, , reputation causes trouble, avoided when @ school, , talked behind back. cold side of shown stem having little insight other peoples emotions.


before mai met yuichi or lived in kanon s city, mai lived in town mother admitted hospital serious illness. when mother close death, mai started pray mother recover , starts cry. miraculously, mai s mother recovers morning , cured of sickness. explanation of stems magical power mai has within herself. when cries, tears carry incredible healing powers have power bring things dead. media picked on this, mai started bullied , terrorized being freak, mai , mother moved kanon s city. ten years prior beginning of kanon s story, yuichi met mai during summer break , 2 of them played rest of summer, in nearby barley field. when summer break came close , yuichi had return home, mai became distraught @ thought of losing close friend after meeting him. mai made story demons started attacking field of barley , needed fight them off. yuichi told wss sorry had no choice go home. mai told him wait return day. story of demons attacking barley field true misinterpreted. demons construction vehicles coming raze field in order construct new high school complex. being place met yuichi, field contains precious memories , place cherishes.


after starting hang out in school, yuichi discovers mai has bad reputation @ school due events involving demons. yuichi tries improve reputation having , sayuri attend annual school dance party, demon appears , makes matters worse; attacking sayuri. yuichi starts training mai fight against demons , 2 spend night @ school fighting , destroying them. unbeknownst yuichi, each time demon has been killed, mai has been hurt in form of strange black marks appearing on body. after intense battle last remaining demons, yuichi believes have destroyed of demons, later confronted demon. sees not demon, rather part of mai s own power shows him happened before met mai , happened after met ten years ago.


due mai s incredible power heal things, adverse effect created power demons . reason getting hurt after destroying them because killing off parts of own self. after yuichi tries tell on now, mai blames herself causing friends trouble , thus, stabs herself sword , die. then, fragment of mai s own power materializes before yuichi in form of young mai , yuichi reassures not leave mai again. mai s own power saves , closes wound had inflicted saves mai s life. mai s power believes mai able accept power has. before mai s power leaves sight, asks yuichi call name hope (希望, kibō). mai later taken hospital shares room sayuri , tells yuichi have stay out of school until spring. when spring comes, mai able graduate high school sayuri.
