formation (1989–1991)

the roots of wolfstone go when fiddler duncan chisholm met guitarist stuart eaglesham @ pub session. idea becoming realised, stuart s brother , keyboard player, struan eaglesham, offered place in line-up, piper allan wilson bonar bridge. roger niven black isle played guitar, replaced andy murray. in 1989, wolfstone performed opening show @ first highland traditional music festival in dingwall, supplemented sequenced bass , drums. following this, band ran usual highlands , islands village dance hall circuit, gaining live experience. clear worthwhile venture, gigs earning them more day jobs. during period, wolfstone recorded 2 albums - wolfstone , wolfstone ii respectively - on rowan records, utilising sequencing machines on standard rhythm section. these albums produced david foster, contributed vocals of tracks. however, parted ways wolfstone in 1990 on disagreement on band s direction. in 1990, orcadian ivan drever joined band on vocals, guitars, , songwriting duties. soon, wolfstone offered recording contract iona records in glasgow, , in 1991, began work on unleashed, allowing them guest drummer john henderson , bassist neil hay decidedly more authentic sound. mid-process, offered support slot @ runrig s major loch lomond midsummer event, alongside such acts capercaillie , hothouse flowers. exposure brought band larger gigs , shows, playing new audiences. ultimately, unleashed success, achieving silver status in uk.


mainstream success (1992–1996)

1992 saw wolfstone enter studio once again record follow-up album, chase. time, piper allan wilson had left band, , position filled several years string of different session musicians, including dougie pincock, gordon duncan , martyn bennett. chase proved great success, achieving gold status. band once again made busy touring, addition of tv appearances, example 1993 edition of children in need. ep entitled burning horizons released in 1993, consolidating bassist wayne mackenzie , drummer mop youngson full-time members. in 1994, wolfstone signed green linnet records, consequently saw release of year of dog. backing of major label, band able reach international audience, touring europe, america , reaching countries such kazakhstan. time, celtic records label reissued band s albums, wolfstone , wolfstone ii. there no clear reason why undertaken. albums inclusion of synthesised rhythm section, quality vastly inferior of standard recording. duncan chisholm says: disown 2 albums. band in not reflect going on then; different line different ideas , objectives; buying 2 albums not buying wolfstone recording. never promote them , wouldn t sell them anyone. despite this, first of these albums received positive reception allmusic. in late 1994, position of piper consolidated when stevie saint joined band full-time. has remained in line-up ever since. in 1996, wolfstone released fourth album, half tail. previous albums, met success, though critics felt lacked band s usual drive.


contractual obligations , reinvention (late 1996–2001)

mop youngson left band in late 1996 owing exhaustion derived constant touring. replaced session drummer ronny watson. keyboard player struan eaglesham left band @ time. replaced andy thorburn. wolfstone continued tour in 1997–1998 following release of half tail album. in 1997, best-of compilation album, assembled band s former label iona records, released in partnership green linnet. however, fulfill part of recording contract green linnet records, ivan drever undertook side project involving few band members, entitled strange place. green linnet deliberately marketed wolfstone album, perhaps achieve greater sales. such, band s popularity waned, fans led believe album s largely mellow sound wolfstone s new direction. drever s departure in late 1998 again struck @ band s popularity, many felt had been stylistic backbone. technically, wolfstone disbanded towards end of 1998, band obliged return studio fulfill recording contract. joined andy simmers on keys, , tony soave on drums, recorded in winter of 1998/1999, producing seven. wolfstone regard comeback album success, having been pleased final outcome. toured majority of 2000, struck tragedy @ death of andy simmers. band made decision continue, , set own label, namely once bitten records. on this, band released first , far live album not enough shouting.


recent years (2002–present)

in 2002, wolfstone returned fold record album, had altogether rockier feel. island. sometime after this, band experienced brief hiatus allow members relax strains of touring. alyn cosker, session drummer on album, joined band full-time, whilst long-time bassist wayne mackenzie left group. in 2003, ross hamilton joined wolfstone on various guitar duties, began share vocals stuart eaglesham. 2004 saw band reach america once again, playing @ variety of festivals. intervening years saw dundonian colin cunningham join band on bass guitar. in 2007, wolfstone released terra firma launch party @ ironworks venue in inverness, ross hamilton assuming full vocal duties on album. however, departed few months after this. meant time wolfstone supported runrig @ beat drum concert @ drumnadrochit on banks of loch ness, stuart eaglesham had returned lead vocals. later year, davie dunsmuir joined band lead guitarist. in 2010, band celebrated 21st anniversary @ festival theatre in pitlochry. 2011 saw further touring across europe, , overhaul of official website. stuart eaglesham released video interview in july, stated wolfstone in studio recording new tracks. band hoped release ep or full album late 2011 or 2012, ep released in march 2012 containing 2 tracks.
