the first casa bonita opened in summer of 1968 in oklahoma city, @ time when mexican food considered novelty in area. restaurant located along u.s. route 66 @ intersection of nw 39th , portland. on opening, featured themed rooms, including garden room , el pokey, room themed mexican jail. oklahoma city location closed in 1993. after housing other businesses, building demolished in 2015.
tulsa, oklahoma
the tulsa location opened in 1971 near intersection of 21st , sheridan. interior designed create outdoor nighttime atmosphere of mexican village. various themed dining areas, seating on 500, included village square fountain, 2-level lantern-lit cave, tropical garden 20-ft waterfall , stream, , room resembling aristocratic dining hall strolling mariachis. tulsa location included puppet , magic show theatre, video arcade, working carousel, , gift shop.
it closed on september 30, 2005, due reported inability reach suitable lease terms property owner. reopened, casa viva, in may 2006 , closed again in december 2007. in late july 2008, restaurant, having been sold previous owner group, reopened under original casa bonita name. in february 2011, restaurant failed reopen after lengthy snowstorms hit tulsa, , sign on door said closed business.

the lakewood location opened in 1974 on colfax avenue west of denver, along u.s. route 40/i-70 business. similar in architecture tulsa location (both large retail store locations), lakewood restaurant seats on 1000 people @ time, , features strolling mariachis, flame jugglers, , 30-foot (9.1 m) waterfall cliff divers. has small puppet theater, haunted tunnel called black bart s cave, arcade large skee-ball room, , magic theater. designated historic landmark of city in march 2015. of 2017, lakewood casa bonita location continues operated star buffet.
