resolution 1888 (2009) perceived advancement in international law created office of special representative of secretary general sexual violence in conflict (srsg-svc). first special representative, margot wallstrom, appointed in april 2010. current special representative zainab hawa bangura took office in september 2012. office identified 8 priority countries: bosnia , herzegovina; central african republic (car); colombia; cote d’ivoire; democratic republic of congo (drc); liberia; south sudan , sudan. srsg-svc engaged in middle east (syria) , in asia , pacific (cambodia).


the 6 priorities of office are:



resolution 1960 (2010) reaffirms sexual violence systematic, rampant , widespread. resolution creates new institutional tools prevention , protection sexual violence. aim of resolution provide further steps combating impunity , recognizing sexual violence serious breach of human rights law , international humanitarian law.


resolution 2106 (2013) reasserts fundamental requirements prevention of sexual violence in conflict , post-conflict setting: gender equality, women empowerment, , importance of implementing full range of commitments found in resolution 1325.
