administration

the university transit service employs full-time , part-time non-student drivers, uva students make majority of work force. students required undergo rigorous training process satisfies virginia department of motor vehicles requirement commercial driver s license , teaches them different routes @ uva. 3 official training classes offered throughout year during january, may, , august, although in times of driver shortage new drivers can trained 1 on 1 or in small groups throughout semester. of new driver training performed current uts drivers selected before beginning of training class trainers. training overseen training coordinator current driver , selected task before each training session.


student management

each year 4 student supervisors chosen current drivers apply. although called student supervisors, these supervisors manage drivers on road while on duty, whether student drivers, wage drivers, or full-time drivers. each supervisor assigned days of week on duty , during time deal driver , route problems present themselves. 4 supervisors head 3 committees: bilateral extension of safety , training committee (best), public , employee relations (per), , charter committee.


supervisor training

unlike becoming new driver, there no training classes becoming supervisor. new supervisors instead taught on job few weeks supervisors previous year. previous supervisor acts in mentoring capacity , not directly supervise drivers during time.


budget

the university transit service budget consists of several components: mandatory comprehensive transportation fee of $144 (as of 2008-2009 academic year), uva health system funding, university heights apartments transportation fee, , charter services.
