in january 2011, kasparov began training american grandmaster hikaru nakamura. first of several training sessions held in new york prior nakamura s participation in tata steel chess tournament in wijk aan zee, netherlands. in december 2011, announced cooperation had come end.


kasparov played 2 blitz exhibition matches in autumn of 2011. first, in september against french grandmaster maxime vachier-lagrave, in clichy (france), kasparov won 1½–½. second longer match consisting of 8 blitz games played on 9 october, against english grandmaster nigel short. kasparov won again score of 4½–3½.


a little after that, in october 2011, kasparov played , defeated fourteen opponents in simultaneous exhibition took place in bratislava.


on april 25 , 26, 2015, kasparov played mini-match against nigel short. match consisted of 2 rapid games , 8 blitz games. kasparov won match decisively score of 8½–1½, winning 5 games on second day.


on wednesday august 19, 2015 played , won 19 games of simultaneous exhibition in pula, croatia.


on thursday 28 april , friday 29 april 2016 @ chess club , scholastic center of saint louis, kasparov played 6-round exhibition blitz round-robin tournament fabiano caruana, wesley so, , hikaru nakamura in event called ultimate blitz challenge. finished tournament third 9.5/18, behind hikaru nakamura (11/18) , wesley (10/18). @ post-tournament interview, considered possibility of playing future top-level blitz exhibition matches.


on june 2, 2016, kasparov played against fifteen chess players in simultaneous exhibition in kaiser-friedrich-halle of mönchengladbach. won games.


in 2017, kasparov came out of retirement participate in inaugural st. louis rapid , blitz tournament august 14–19, scoring 3.5/9 in rapid , 9/18 in blitz, finishing 8th out of 10 participants, included nakamura, caruana, former world champion anand, , eventual winner, aronian. tournament money earned go towards charities promote chess in africa.

on 7 october 2013 kasparov announced candidacy world chess federation president during reception in tallinn, estonia, 84th fide congress took place. kasparov s candidacy supported former student, reigning world chess champion , fide#1 ranked player magnus carlsen. @ fide general assembly in august 2014, kasparov lost presidential election incumbent fide president kirsan ilyumzhinov, vote of 110-61.


a few days before election took place, new york times magazine had published lengthy report on viciously fought campaign. included information leaked contract between kasparov , former fide secretary general ignatius leong singapore, in kasparov campaign reportedly offered pay leong $500,000 , pay $250,000 year 4 years asean chess academy, organization leong helped create teach game, specifying leong responsible delivering 11 votes region [...] . in september 2015 fide ethics commission found kasparov , leong guilty of violating code of ethics , later suspended them 2 years fide functions , meetings.
