early life

the daughter of governor harrison winthrop , helen revere-mott-beaton, ivy (originally) born sometime in 1956. grew in state neighboring maine , raised in lap of luxury, mother descendant of paul revere. possibly advantaged upbringing led affair harmony lifeguard, sam bennett. although knew of sam s intention cop, ivy determined marry sam , make him give blue collar roots, , have him become businessman, running father s shipping company, winthrop marine, though knew never wanted that. when sam took job summer working ivy s father make enough money marry ivy keep in lifestyle accustomed, ivy began seeing julian crane, , became lovers. throughout summer, heard nothing sam, unaware father stopping letters getting , forth.

harrison winthrop knew daughter , believed never happy on policeman s salary. ivy proved father right when got closer , closer julian crane, accepting offer of marriage after ivy believed sam had begun seeing other women. wed julian in 1974 believing love , father s money enough make happy. moved harmony after marrying julian. on wedding night, ivy learned julian had been forced marriage father, alistair, , went sam, officially consummating relationship. next day went father , told him leaving julian, , , sam live off trust fund, , harrison have accept it. harrison told if wanted sam choice, there no money—their family broke, trust fund gone, , if left julian sam, ivy have live off whatever sam make. ivy went julian, , left on honeymoon next day.
