the loyola university rugby football club men s rugby union team represents loyola in national small college rugby organization. club composed of on 50 student-athletes, alumni volunteers, , professional trainers. founded in 1976 group of loyola students, lurfc continues oldest , active club sport @ college. lurfc , players have achieved many all-american titles , u.s. rugby rankings, ranked #8 in country , in nscro sweet 16 in 2017.


the greyhound ruggers have traveled abroad play irish teams, including teams in limerick, dublin, , cork. loyola plays on lugano field, located on grounds of ridley athletic center. lugano field state of art turf pitch that, while used university whole, rugby first pitch, regulation size, lined , limited grandstands. named in honor of decorated player in loyola history, sean lugano, tragically gave life serving others in world trade center attacks of september 11, 2001.
